About Us

What do we cover in our workshops?

Software Development

Our software workshops cover all the essential tools that you will need in order to create functional and effective software (no experience required). Examples of what we may cover in our workshops include:

  • C++ development
C++ is an extremely fast and versatile language which is both easy to write and interpret but also allows for low-level hardware interaction which makes it an ideal choice when programming electronic components. We will be programming software for Arduino boards using the C++ Language.
  • Development Principles
We will cover what it takes to write functional, effective software. It is crucial to know the basics on how to format your code, improve readability, and test your code under various circumstances.

Hardware and Robotics

Our hardware workshops cover the basics of electrical components and robotics. There will be many hands on activities using Arduino boards which will allow members to gain practical hands-on experience. (no experience required). Examples of what we may cover in our workshops include:

  • Electronic Circuitry and Programming
Circuitry is the backbone of all electronic devices surrounding us every day. In robotics, you will need a good understanding of electronic circuits and the logic behind them to create a product that is funtional and innovative. For more complex projects, the programming of ICs are also key factors.
  • Arduino Development
We will be exploring the Arduino - a convenient microcontroller platform that allows the user to create easy hardware connections. The programming will be just as easy with the arduino language, which is a variation of C++.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Qestions

What are we all about?

We will host weekly software and robotic workshops to help students create projects with Arduino and other development frameworks. We hope to ignite a passion in technology and develop valuable skills and experience that will be beneficial in future education and employment environments.

Do I need to be experienced in engineering in order to participate?

Absolutely not! The club is open to students of any skill level and often feature beginner-friendly workshops. There are mentors readily available who are open to any questions you may have and will gladly assist you in whatever it is that you want to learn.

Can I join the club anytime during the year?

Absolutely! Just note that you must attend either 10 or half of the total meetings (whichever is less) in order to recieve a club credit.

Are meetings in-person or online?

We are now holding meetings in-person. You must RSVP in order to attend in-person meetings using the forms which are posted weekly on our Google Classroom as we have a capacity limit to follow in order to maintain public health guidelines. RSVP spots are first come first serve.

When will meetings run?

Meetings are held every Monday from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Any changes to meeting times will be noted on our Google Classroom.

How can I attend meetings?

You must fill out an RSVP form each week in order to be guaranteed a spot at each meeting. You can find this form on our Google Classroom. Each Monday, emails will be sent out to those who have complted the RSVP indicating which room you have been assigned to. Our club is held in rooms 2114, 2106 and 2103. If you are unsure where to go, come to one of these rooms and we will be glad to assist you.
